First, let me say that this controller feels great with two exceptions, the View and the Menu buttons. Whoever picked the placement for these buttons doesn't actually play video games. For the View button you have to reach your thumb over top of the left stick to reach it, this often moving the stick just trying to press this button. This is problematic for any game that uses the button a lot. In Elden Ring, for example, it's the map button. You use it a lot, but on this controller, it's awkward and if you have small hands reaching these buttons could be problematic. Both buttons should have been placed closer to central portion of the controller, within easy reach of your thumbs. For my solution I moved the buttons to the lower two paddle buttons underneath. Having to remap commonly used buttons because the product design placed them out of easy reach is just silly. As a long time PC Razer user I knew how easy this was going to be to set up in Synapse. It's the expectation of ANY Razer device. It's the one piece of software that if you are familiar with it, you know you won't have any issues with your Razer device. Am I right?Well, no. Not this time. For reasons unknown Razer's software that configures everything software doesn't recognize this Razer device. And if you are a PC user there's nothing in the manual that actually says you need to download another piece of software to configure the controller. The manual simply says that when you plug it into a PC the driver will be installed. Let me share with you the exact PC usage instructions from the manual:"On PCWait until the controller's drivers are automatically installed or manually update the drivers through Device Manager."That's it, the sum total of the PC instructions before the manual starts talking about XBox usage again.So....how do you configure this controller on PC since it doesn't use Synapse? Well, you have to download the elegantly named Razer Controller Setup for Xbox App from the Microsoft store. With that elegant name for the app, it's pretty clear it's only for use on the XBox, right? Well, wrong. This elegantly named piece of software is what you need to download on your PC in order to control your brand new Chroma controller. From the name, it's pretty clear it's for use on your PC, right? I mean, it says so right there in the name, XBOX. Xbox and PC and the same, right? Maybe someone should let the people at Razer know that they aren't the same. The bigger problem here, is that if you read the reviews, this has been a complaint for years. For some reason, Razer doesn't want you to configure your new controller in Synapse. Razer doesn't actually tell you what you do need to get and you're left with reviews like this to figure out a product that should have worked with the software you already had installed.Just think of how much support effort Razer could eliminate with this controller if they simply used Synapse. Or, even, and this one is really tough call, but maybe if they changed that elegant app name to Razer Controller Setup for PC App. It still keeps they grammatic elegance Razer seems to love for this product, but it also indicates its usage on a PC.And seriously, Razer, why is this labeled a Chroma controller if we can't configure it in Chroma Studio? For lighting you get three settings. Breathing, Static or Color Cycle. No way to tie this supposed Chroma device to the rest of your Chroma devices for system wide color control. And that is, misleading marketing. If a Razer device says Chroma, I expect it to work in both Synapse and Chroma Studio. Razer apparently feels anything with colored lighting should be called Chroma whether or not you can actually tie it to your system lighting. Before I get to Razer's shipping deal with Amazon, I should say that mechanically the controller feels good. I'm enjoying using it for the day I've had it, so far and am retraining my muscle memory to use some of the extra buttons/paddles. It feels and sounds great. But it's like it's not really a Razer product, it's just a throw away.Okay, now I want to say, you should consider not buying this via Razer/Amazon based on their shipping. I ordered two of these on the 16th, 9 in stock. An hour later I noticed the white ones would get here sooner. An hour after placing the order, Amazon said it couldn't be cancelled as it was being prepared for shipment. Oh, great. I'd get it sooner. So, on the 17th a label was created. Then nothing until the 22nd when it apparently was placed on a tractor trailer for a slow drive from California to New Hampshire. It was delivered on the 28th. Amazon's famous 11 day Prime delivery, yet I couldn't cancel the order an hour after placing it. If you want one of these quickly, well...So, I'm docking the controller three stars. One star is lost for the horrible placement of the view and menu buttons. One star is lost for this Chroma device not being an actual Chroma device. One star is lost due to the horrible documentation that doesn't actually address PC users.Mechanically it's a 4 star controller. If the View and Menu buttons were easy to reach it would be 5 stars hands down. The rest is Razer cutting off its nose to spite its face. And seriously, Razer, if you are going to say "For Gamers by Gamers" please make sure the person designing your controller is an actual gamer. A real gamer would have known those two buttons are poorly placed.I will be comparing this directly with a standard wireless xbox one controller, as that's what I have used, I cannot compare this controller to a xbox series controller which is likely an improvement over an xbox one controller.First, I specifically wanted a wired controller to play elden ring on some time off from work I had, I had already put in about 16 hours using the wireless xbox one controller. The good is that this controller is more comfortable to hold in my large-ish hands, and the menu buttons are placed in locations that are easier to reach without having to move your hand placement. Second, the buttons have a very different feel, but this isn't a bad thing as my xbox one controller the A and X buttons were very mushy and the Y button was sticking down for some reason despite the fact I've used the controller very little considering how long I've had it. These buttons are more tactile and spring back much nicer, personally I think the buttons* are a big improvement. Also while the white controller was more expensive at time of purchase(black was on sale for 79.99) the white looks good, and matches my white pc build. One note that's not really good or bad is that this controller still uses the breakaway connector like what was on the original xbox and the xbox 360, good for not yanking your pc/console if you accidentally tug it, but also may pop loose on you during gameplay if you have the cable routed tautly. Now there are two things that annoy me, and a third which is more specific to what game you're playing and if you've been playing it with a different controller. The first annoyance is that the additional M1 / M2 buttons located on the shoulders have pre-bound mapping, should be blank by default and allow the consumer to map them to what they want should they want to at all. They're in a convenient location if you plan to use them, or annoying if you didn't mean to press them and suddenly you're accidentally chugging healing potions you didn't need in the middle of a fight, which happened to me many times before I figured out how to unbind them. The second annoyance is that despite this being a razer product and virtually all other razer products being controlled by the synapse app, this controller, and presumably the elite version with even more extra buttons require a windows store app to remap the buttons, this feels silly and combined with the fact that the extra buttons are pre-bound and in a location where you may hit them on accident makes for a real annoyance. Lastly the more use-case oriented annoyance is the triggers, while the buttons feel better all around, the triggers have a reduced actuation point making them "faster" responding, and the controller has little locks to block off the full trigger travel distance turning them more into buttons rather than triggers. This difference in actuation timing takes a lot of getting used to in games where there's time sensitive button presses on the triggers. Such as parrying in elden ring, even after an additional ~40 hours with this controller I'm still having trouble getting the timing down after the first ~16 hours with a different controller. But if you're not switching to this controller partway into a game, or you're just more adaptable to things like that, you'll probably be fine. I do not know for sure if the changes to the triggers affect the analog-like pressure sensitive features found on the standard xbox one controller which is good for games with driving. The last thing I'll mention is the indicator light is bright, too bright. So was the logo on the xbox one controller but this one seems to catch me in the eyes more often, if by chance somebody working with Razer sees this review, it would be great if the controller app had a brightness/dimming setting.I've tried dozen of controllers. I've tried PlayStation and Xbox and anything that was made by all the main controller manufacturers. I kept coming back to the Nintendo Pro controllers (not those God forsaken Joy Cons) because I liked the bumper design better since it allowed me to claw grip it more comfortably.Still, I kept looking around just in case there was anything better and I got this to give them a try. Even though it's designed like other Xbox controllers, there is just something to the shape that is pleasing and comfortable. It is slightly different. The texture they have on it is also very nice and I enjoy holding it. While the bumpers are designed like every other damn controller that isn't Nintendo, I actually prefer using these. I can't claw grip them if I wanted to be able to quickly press two bumper buttons at the same time, but I you really can't beat the comfort and feel of these! Also the joysticks are slightly longer which helps for more precision. Longer is better.Wolverine v2 reviewPros:Feels goodMouse button feel face buttons (quick response time)Trigger stops that actually workXtreme grip like your girlfriend has on your wallet.Razer stickersCons:Its fricking wired. It costs a arm and a leg!It didn't make me better at COD I still suckMy love life is non-existentMy truck broke downI'm out of beerI bought this over the elite v2 because they drift harder than DK from the fast and the furious movie. I bought this controller in mid march, it's now the first week of June and one of the most common buttons that I use is now not responsive. What a horrible waste of money... the most I've ever payed for a controller and now it's garbage... But some of the choices they made for this controller are pretty bad... the cable is not braided, it's a standard cheap plastics type wire.. you cannot detach it from the controller itself for easier storage.I was willing to look past it not having buttons on the back, but honestly since they are still selling the wolverine tournament for a few dollars more.. I would suggest going for that one instead.V2 is not worth it, especially for the price. It's not worthy of even being part of the wolverine lineup, huge step down.
