This card works out of the box on my MacPro 2010 (5,1) running Yosemite. Here's the kicker: I haven't connected it to the internal power. I'm not sure why but it would appear that the card can draw sufficient amounts of juice from the PCI bus. It's enough power to charge an iPhone 6 (or rather, I have a charge indication on my iPhone 6 but how many amps the phone can actually pull is not clear). Either way, so far I've used it with memory card readers and an external drive (which has its own power supply).The only caveat is that when the computer sleeps and then awakens, the previously connected drives are disconnected. I've seen a lot of people mention that as a problem. I wonder if this problem would go away if I connected it to the internal power source?Anyone?
